Good afternoon, Bonnie,

Great question! Yes, I have performed wedding ceremonies at the Minnehaha Pergola Garden, and both of them were quite small. Perhaps if you rented chairs, and had them set up so that the pergola was used as the dias…I would assume that would be the way to accomodate a large wedding there.

I recommend you check out the Bug Bee Hive Resort in Paynesville (30 minutes from Melrose). It is a hidden gem situated near Lake Koronis. I recently played piano music for a wedding there and fell in love with the place. They can serve approx 200 guests indoors and more if outdoors. The grounds are beautiful and the staff provide excellent service. http://bugbeehiveresort.com/

There are some wonderful venues and vendors in central Minnesota. Be sure to visit http://www.idoido.org/ for planning a wedding in central Minnesota. Some of my personal favorite venues within 30 minutes of Royalton are Mulligans in Sartell, Blackberry Ridge Golf and Event Center in Sartell, St. Cloud Country Club in St. Cloud (overlooks the Mississippi River). Just under an hour drive is Grand View Lodge in Nisswa and just over an hour drive is The Crowne Room Banquet Center in Rogers. Also just over an hour drive if your guest count is under 125 is The Palmer House a hotel where Sinclair Lewis worked as a night clerk. The hotel is on the historic national register and will host smaller wedding receptions. I hope you find the ‘perfect’ venue for your special day!

Hi Reverand Coleman,

My fiance and I are just starting the wedding planning process and have found your website and blog very helpful. Thank you for such a great resource! We are currently looking at parks and really loved the Minnehaha Pergola Garden. We visited and found it lovely, but are confused to how a 200-person ceremony is set up (The Minneapolis Parks website states that it can host weddings of up to 250). Have you officiated a larger wedding at this venue, and if so how did it work? Where were guests seated, etc?
